Tribute to Koothabiran anna

I was always a crying child. I would cry, if I had lost my eraser or if someone took my book away. My father Prof. Dr. N. S. Sundaram had faced lot of failures because he was shy and an introvert. So he helped extensively to shape me as an extrovert and was always a source of encouragement. He sacrificed his time on Sundays by taking me at 10 in the morning for rehearsal to all India Radio Station, Chennai. Those days there were no recorded programs. The live program use to start at 3 o’ clock called Papa Malar. Two people named Radio Anna and Koothabiran encouraged me to take part in on air competitions like Tamil poetry and dramatics. I participated in several such programs and use to get a cheque of Rs 10 signed on behalf of President of India. This along with my parent’s continuous encouragement worked wonders for me. In 7th Standard, I took part in Swami Vivekananda Elocution competition. I also participated in extempore and debates. As a vice president of UNESCO Club in standard 10th in school, I also conducted mock UN assembly.
